I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10 v 10 (NIV)
If you have never been to church before, or not since you were very young, here are a few FAQs.
Do I need to look smart?
No,be yourself and wear what you feel comfortable in. Some people wear jeans and a t-shirt, others like to wear a suit or ‘Sunday clothes’. It really doesn’t matter, we will just be happy to see you.
What should I do when I arrive?
There is always a welcoming team at the door, come and say“Hello” and we will show you in. We love seeing new people.
Do I have to stand up and sing?
No. You can sit or stand and sing or stay quiet. You may feel that you simply enjoy listening to the worship band. We want you to feel comfortable.
Do I need a Bible?
No. You are welcome to bring a Bible, but we have plenty that you can borrow. All the bible readings, songs and sermon summaries are projected onto the screen at the front for everyone to read. If you don’t have a Bible at home, let us know and we will be happy to give you one to keep.
Do I have to follow a set pattern?
As a Baptist Church we don’t follow a written liturgy. There is a strong emphasis on biblical teaching, but no set pattern on readings, prayers or songs although a lot of thought and prayer has gone in to preparing each service.
Can I leave if I need to?
Yes. We hope you will feel comfortable enough to stay and join us after the service for tea, coffee and biscuits, but you can also leave at any time during the service, you will also see people coming and going who have different job roles on a Sunday.
What about my children?
We have a dedicated youth programme on Sundays from babies through to teenagers. We all meet together initially for worship and then the children and young people leave for their groups. Alternatively, they can stay with you, it’s completely up to you. Our youth programme is called ‘Quest’, you can find out more here: Quest
What is a Baptist Church and how is it different to others?
Please see our information about ‘being a Baptist Church’ here:
Is it wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The main church is on the ground floor and we have disabled toilets. Some of the youth work takes place upstairs and there is a lift available.
Where do I park?
We have a small car park behind the church which is available evenings and Sundays (not during weekdays), but on Sunday mornings we are also able to park at St Mary’s Works (a permit is required, available from the Welcome Desk) until 1pm.
